I believe that my magazine represents similar social groups
to magazines such as NME magazine because the content is fairly similar; I’m
going to use the two images to highlight this. I chose the image from NME.
Firstly I am going to consider posture. The posture of the
two models is very different. The image I took the model is leaning in to the
camera and the model is on eye level with the reader and therefore this draws in the reader more, yet the image I took from 'Q' magazine the model is looking away from the camera and therefore doesn't
engage the audience as much. This is important because it makes the reader feel more appart ofmagazine and therefore may be more inclined to buy it.The model looks fierce and
goes against the female stereotype however by using make up and styling to
models hair it adds feminine features to the image, and doesn’t go fully
against the female stereotype. I did this so the magazine attracts both female
and male audience. The posture of the model taken from ‘Q’ magazine is slightly
more feminine; this is represented through her posture and poses however the
use of clothes such as leather jackets with studs on creates an image that is
more powerful and that relates more to the target audience.
Next I am going to talk about gesture. The gesture of my model shows that she is quite a serious person and that the article and
the artist has a more serious tone compared from the image from ‘Q’ magazine as
the other image is more playful and bright and welcoming, this is helped with
her gesture of opening her jacket. However with my image the model is more ‘closed’
and unwelcoming yet her eye contact with the reader makes the image eye
catching and personal.
The angles and the shot types are very different on the pictures. My image is a close up of my model and the rule of thirds was used to create a proportioned image with most of the focus on the model and little focus of the background and body. However the image from ‘Q’ magazine is a mid-shot and therefore you can see more of the model and therefore body language is more important.

The lighting in the images is quite different.
My image is a
darker image which matches with the indie rock genre and the house style of the
magazine. The lighting of my image is different because I mainly used natural
light from outside however the magazine from ‘Q’ magazine is a studio image and
therefore uses artificial lights to create a bright vibrant image.

The expression as I briefly mentioned before that my model
has an aggressive expression and therefore goes against the female stereotype, this
helps reach out to both the male and female target audience. Once again even
though the model looks aggressive and unwelcoming the use of putting the model
on eye level with the reader helps to make the image seem more welcoming. However
the image from ‘Q’ magazine is more welcoming and playful and goes against the stereotype
of the indie-rock genre.
