Kimberley Anne Ryan or ‘Indie Rock Queen’ as she has been depicted by the media, claims she sees herself as more of an indie rock princess for now. This year is the start of an amazing career for Kimberley with the release of her debut album ‘Maps’ and endless touring – this should be an excellent year for her.

She entered the room nervous; however you could tell she was bursting with confidence like a tiger amongst kittens. She walked over, smile beaming and shook my hand, took a seat and the interview began.

“Since I was young I’ve always loved singing, I can remember singing to my family and joining in with talent shows in school.” It seems that years of singing has truly paid off for Kimberley as now she is supporting bands such as ‘The Wombats’ and ‘Noah and the Whale’. “It’s been amazing supporting for them. I’ve expanded my fan base by hundreds even thousands!” She went on to explain how supportive her fans are, saying “I’ve always had a handful of fans, when I first started out the only fans I had were friends and family, but as I started to do more shows my fan base began to blossom, and before I knew it I had a few thousand twitter fans.” As the interview went on Kimberley started to show her true colours, of course at the young age of only 19 she must of felt like a rabbit caught in headlights,  entering a huge room full of crew ready for her photo shoot followed by a in depth interview.

With three years’ worth of songs to choose from, Kimberley went on to describe the difficulty’s that go into choosing  ten songs to go on the album from a choice of over one hundred. “I don’t know how I managed it. It took me weeks to choose, but I think I have selected the songs that reflect me and my music best. ”She went on to tell us about the doubts of her song selection for the album. “I doubted myself the whole time” she says “I doubted whether the songs were good enough, whether the record was strong enough. I doubted everything-every single lyric.” However it seems from what we have heard from the album that Kimberley has no room for doubt, with each song filled with true passion, it seems that Kimberley has poured her heart out into these songs.

With her sound being a clash of Florence and the machine and Noah and the Whale it is a sound you cannot miss. Her debut album ‘Maps’ is released on the 17th July 2012.
