Evaluation 4: Who would be the audience for your media product?


A typical audience member of indie rock would look something like this. The music tastes they may like such bands as ‘The Wombats’ and ‘The Arctic Monkeys’. An interest most of my audience will have is to go to gigs to see the bands they like and will buy magazines like mine to see gig advertisements and to find out information about songs, gigs and albums from that band. An interest of the indie rock audience may play similar instruments to these bands and learn songs by them too. Many of the indie rock audience will shop in such shops such as record shops, Topshop , Vintage shops and music shops. They would shop in music shops to buy their music such as new albums of bands they seen in a music magazine, also in music shops they may purchase posters and other music magazines that feature the bands they like. However the indie rock audience may purchase their music from bands websites and iTunes as it may be free to download from a bands website or cheaper to buy on iTunes than in store. Most of the indie rock audience will shop in such shops like Topshop as it is affordable and up to date with fashion. Also Topshop may release tops with bands or band logos on them that attract the indie rock audience as they like the band or artist. This is an important factor because most of the indie rock audience are young (Aged 16-20) and have low disposable income and therefore not a lot of money to spend on music or clothes.
I think the reason this audience member would buy my magazine is because it has up to date information about indie rock bands and information about gigs, songs and albums. Also my magazine is at the affordable price of £2.10 and therefore they will be able to afford the magazine. Also as my magazine is similar to magazines such as ‘Q’ and ‘NME’ they may buy it as they know the magazine will relate to them and will have the relevant information they want in the magazine. I think another reason why the indie rock audience member would buy my magazine is through the offers of free items such as posters. As my target audience are around the age of 16-20 they do not have much disposable income so anything advertised as being free will grab their attention and therefore may make them buy the magazine as they know they are getting value for money.
